We were eager to do some camping in the area, so we picked Strawberry Reservoir for a couple of weekend camping trips, which is 1.5hs drive from SLC through the Wasatch mountains.
Def not a boring ride that’s for sure. You drive around Park City, Jordanelle Reservoir, and through Heber valley, so there are plenty of scenic stops to make.
The Strawberry Reservoir has a few campgrounds to chose from, so for the first time camping we picked the Strawberry Bay campground which has a min. of 2 night booking criteria over the weekend. Since Fris were all booked up we reserved a spot Sat-Monday. Due to the heat and no shade we wrapped it up noon time Sunday, cause as much as we were trying to last there was nowhere to hide from the 30C/95F temp Sun! 😀
It’s a very pretty spot with many camping spots for both tents and glamping, altho I would say 95% of occupants were RV-ers/camper-ers, 🏕️ were very sporadic. The only downside for me sharing a campground with RVs are its loud generators, but fortunately the camp hosts enforce quiet hours 10pm-6am, so you can get a break. This part of lake is mostly used for boating as there aren’t that many beaches here- you can access the lake thru rocks or dirty mud. We enjoyed our walks on the shore watching sunset/sunrise and tons of wild life including packs of pelicans.
This campsite has clean flush toilets (many locations), sells wood for $8/pack, and also has a general store that opens at 7am (I did not catch the closing time).
Second time around we camped at the Soldier Creek campground with some friends, and we stayed only one night again this time cause of almost freezing temperatures at night. This side of the lake has prettier beaches and different views. The campground is run the same as Strawberry Bay.
Great area and having blast camping w the dogos!!

“Czech The Box Summary” – Krátce a Stručně Česky (na anglické klávesnici)
Nateseni sme se vydali na nase prvni kempovani tohoto roku - je tady v okoli Salt Lake City toho hodne, tak sme vybrali Strawberry prehradu. Je to asi 1.5h jizdy horami, takze cesta ubehla rychle. Je to dost velke kempoviste (ted si nejsem jista ci je to ceske slovo 😀) pro stany i RVcka a kempovaci vozy, kterych tam teda byla vetsina.
Zamluvili sme si dva dny, ale sbalili sme to po jednom protoze bylo sileny vedro (35C) a zadny stin nikde nebyl se pred slunkem schovat. Tahle prehrada je raj pro mistni lodare, plaz s piskem tam ale neni zadna. Clovek se muze projit po bahnite plazi, a sledovat hodne ptaku jako pelikany, kachny, a dalsi ktere neznam jmenem 🦆🦖😄. Jinak splachovaci zachody a obchod s potravinami bylo fajn tam mit, i kdyz kafe od tama byl peknej fujtajbl. 😂
Jeste jsme se semka vratili kempovat s kamarady dalsi vikend do podobneho kempu, ktery je na jine strane jezera s hezcimi plazemi. No jako predtim bylo pres den vedro, ale v noci spadla teplota na 4 stupne, coz nedavali ani pejsci. Tak sme to zbalili dalsi den a po ceste sme mrkli jeste na Heber udoli s peknym parcikem.
Je to krasny mistecko kam vede krasna cesta, cek by tu kempoval kazdy vikend kdyby bylo lepsi pocasko!
